Likeness To Lily CD Release Dec 5 2008

Posted November 25, 2008

Wow...clearly I've been taking my sweet time in updating this page. Most of the content here is a bit stale. But I have not been idle these many months. I've been devoting most of my spare time to Likeness to Lily, a Brooklyn based ensemble that plays the unique songs of vocalist Susan Oetgen. I mixed the band's second CD, Farewell Recruit, which comes out on Dec 5 at Galapagos Art Space. And I designed the band web site, which is much more sophisticated than this old thing. So I hope you'll check it out! And stay tuned for tonymelone.com 2.0, which will arrive sometime in 2009.

Coming events

Posted September 9, 2007

Sorry for the dearth of news...it's been an exciting summer, with my final Alter Egos show at the Blue Note, plus some great gigs with the convertible jennifers and Likeness To Lily. L2L has some fantastic shows coming up in February in March, in the VIM:Tribeca Series, the Brooklyn Philharmonic’s Music Off The Walls series, and at the Vermont Arts Exchange. Also, I've been doing a bit of songwriting in preparation for the next Tony Melone CD, hopfully done by early 2008. I'll surely keep you posted. If you can't wait, the 2001 CD is still available...email me if you're interested. Last but not least, my every-Sunday gig with Aprille Goodman and the band is still going strong, stop by between 9:30 and midnight, Paddy Reilly's Music Bar, 2nd Ave at 29th Street, NYC.

Upcoming shows at Parkside, the Blue Note, and Vivaldi

Posted December 22, 2006

Got some very exciting shows this holiday season. I'll be at the Parkside Lounge on Saturday, December 30th, playing with three great bands: Aprille and the Genuis, the convertible jennifers, and Likeness To Lily. Should be a long night for me, but some great music for everyone. $5 cover, free conjen CD's for the first folks to show up. Music will go from 8:30 to midnight or later.

The Alter Egos, a 9 piece hip hop/soul/jazz collective I've been with since 1999, will be returning to the Blue Note New York as part of their Late Night Groove series on Saturday, Jan 6th at half-past midnight. We're pulling out all the stops for this show, and it's only an $8 cover (not bad for the Blue Note).

The Tony Melone Trio will be returning to Caffe Vivaldi on Friday, February 2nd at 9pm. This is a rare opportunity to play my original jazz tunes and standards on a beautiful grand piano, and I'll be writing some new music for the occasion. This is a free show, and there will be some special guest performers joining us. Also, I'll be returning to my regular Sunday night appearances with Aprille Goodman on Sunday January 7th at Paddy Reilly's Music Bar. We play from 9-midnight, and special guest Steve Thirolle will be joining us on Jan 7th.

Tony Melone Trio gig on Sept. 15

Posted September 13, 2006

September is upon us and I'm enthused to bring my jazz trio back to Caffe Vivaldi for our monthly engagment. It's happening on Friday, September 15 from 9:30-11pm, and I'll be joined by special guest vocalist Susan Oetgen, plus my good friends Ian Riggs on bass and Evan Pazner on drums. This lovely, intimate cafe/bar is located at 32 Jones Street, between Bleeker and W 4th St., in Greenwich Village. We'll do some jazz standards, some tunes from my CD, and some brand new originals by myself and Susan. There's no cover, though we will pass the proverbial hat.

ConJen in DC, Egos in Brooklyn, and TM Trio back at Vivaldi

Posted July 22, 2006

Some great gigs to take you through August: On Sunday, July 23 I'll be playing in the DC area with the convertible jennifers, details are on conjen.com. Then on Saturday, August 5th I'll be performing with the Alter Egos at the outdoor Weeksville Festival in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. There'll be more info on that gig on the egos site soon, hopefully. And on Saturday, August 12th the Tony Melone Trio returns to Caffe Vivaldi in the Village (see posting below for details). And the music continues every Sunday night at Paddy Reilly's (though they'll be playing without me on July 22 and August 20), see the posting below for details.
I'll be out of town July 22-28 and away from my email, so if you need to reach me call 646-431-6862.

Tony Melone Trio Returns

Posted June 15, 2006

Got two gigs coming up where I get to play jazz and my original tunes on a nice piano. On Tuesday, June 20 at 7:30pm and Friday, June 30 at 9pm, I'll be appearing at the Caffe Vivaldi in Greenwich Village, NYC. I'll be joined by Ian Riggs on bass, Evan Pazner on drums and special guest Susan Oetgen, who'll be singing some jazz standards and some of her own songs from the Likeness to Lily project. I hope you'll join us on the 20th or 30th to hear some original and classic jazz music in an intimate cafe/restaurant. No cover, Caffe Vivaldi is at 32 Jones St (off Bleecker near 7th Ave), NYC.

Every Sunday, the music continues at Paddy's

Posted June 15, 2006

Every Sunday I play at Paddy Reilly's Music Bar with Aprille Goodman, a talented singer-songwriter from just outside of Nashville. We don't do any Irish songs so far, but we do play lots of American country, folk, and jazz standards, plus a few of Aprille's originals. With Ian M. Riggs on bass and Brian Quinn on drums.
Paddy Reilly's is on 2nd Ave at 29th St., NYC.
Sundays, 9-midnight, no cover.
